Badge of An Original

The Barbour story began in 1894 in a small city North East of England when the founder, John Barbour opened J. Barbour and Sons in 5 Market Place, South Shields.

One hundred and twentyeight years later Barbour is world wide known for its waxed cotton jackets, the headquarters is still located in South Shields in the same site since 1980 and it remains an amazingly private family-owned business.

In 1936 Duncan Barbour John’s grandson, keen motorcyclist introduced a motorcycling range that became a must for every British International Team (all competitors at the Scottish 6 days of trial) from 1936 to 1977 when Barbour decided to pull of from the motorcycle clothing market.

Today wearing a Barbour International is like wearing a Badge of an Original, a piece of history, originality at its finest. Steve McQueen redefined style by wearing the International and so did Olga Kevelos, first and only woman ever to win in 1950 a gold medal, at the ISDT (international 6 days of trial) while wearing the Barbour International.

For all these reasons I was honoured when asked to be a Badge of an Original and sponsor Barbour International.
