Super 8
A Super 8 camera is a type of motion picture camera that was first introduced in 1965 by the Eastman Kodak Company. In general, Super 8 cameras produced images with a lower resolution and less detail than more professional film formats like 16mm or 35mm but the unique aesthetic qualities of Super 8 film, such as its grainy texture and soft focus, have made it a popular choice for creating a nostalgic and retro look in films.
I obviously have a particular attraction for the outcome, resolution and colours of these videos for their intimate feeling.
Film stock used in Super 8 cameras was limited, so filmmakers had to be mindful of the amount of footage they shot. Additionally, the cameras themselves often lacked advanced features like autofocus and auto exposure, forcing filmmakers to manually adjust focus and exposure.
Think, plan, shot.
Davide Calafa’ always loved the Super 8 camera using it, on many projects, as a personal and creative tool, with a focus on the tactile and visual aspects of filmmaking, rather than just capturing the image itself.
